
In the 2024 Mexican Grand Prix, Mexican driver Patricio O'Ward participated for the first time and managed to finish in thirteenth place with a fastest lap time of 2:04.802. Despite not being in the top ten, he showed good performance and gained experience in Formula 1.
Patricio O'Ward has already participated in official Formula 1 practices in previous editions, such as in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 2022 and 2023, where he achieved a fifteenth-place finish. In the 2024 Mexico GP, he improved his performance and demonstrated his growth at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.
Although he remains a test driver for McLaren, O'Ward will continue competing in IndyCar with Arrow McLaren. On October 25, 2024, he fulfilled his dream of racing at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in a Formula 1 car, representing Mexico on the track.
During the first free practice session in Mexico, Patricio O'Ward drove Lando Norris's McLaren eMCL38. Despite some setbacks, such as a red flag and work on the car, he was able to complete the session and gain more experience in the highest category of motorsport.
This year in IndyCar, O'Ward had a good performance finishing fifth in the championship with six podiums and three victories. In the Mexican Grand Prix, the driver George Russell from Mercedes was the fastest with a time of 1:17, demonstrating the competitiveness of the category.
